Hart District Council has recently implemented changes to its Allocations Policy which went live on the 1st of June 2025. The new allocation criteria for eligibility, specifically around Local Connection, was consulted upon publicly, and the feedback received was positive and supportive of this change.

To be eligible for social housing, applicants must now be currently living in Hart and able to evidence a continuous two-year connection through residency to the District at the point of application.

Additionally, the previous eligibility criteria allowing applicants to apply based on close family association (i.e., family members who have lived in the district for 5 or more years), permanent employment and previous residency has been removed.
